So with a little help from the smart community over at TukUI.org I managed to skin DBM to my liking. Requires a bit of work on the users part, though. I'll be adding both a guide, and a finished patch-file for specific DBM-versions later, though the guide will be more idiot-proof. The Recount skinning is done almost automatically. All you have to do is to type /rl one extra time after logging in with Recount activated for the first time. Or zone into an instance. It's automatic, but seasoned programmers would tremble at the way I did it. Can you spell "ugliest hack ever"?
Still a few things to do before I consider gUI a ready-to-go project, one of them being the need for beta-testers to help me test the high-res layouts. My screen supports a maximum of 1280x1024, which honestly isn't much. There will be a website for gUI in place before I recruit any beta-testers, as well as demonstration videos and various guides for the testers. Once done, I intend to host the UI on WowInterface.com, and not on Curse. There are several reasons for this.
Anyway, here's some screenshots from the still work-in-progress gUI, still featuring layout 5, though with some extra panels beneath the Minimap and some other new stuff included. You also get to see DBM and Recount in action:

Totem and Rune timers are included in the unit frames. Experience and Reputation bars are located under the Minimap and it's optional panels:

PvP objectives and capture bars are located on the right side of the Minimap.
The raidframes for 40 player raids are nothing like Grid, they feature no HoT or debuff tracking, and I'm not going to implement it. If you want a full package like that, simply disable the gUI frames, and install let's say... Grid:

The pitiful status of Wintergrasp on my server, reflecting the highly unbalanced Horde to Alliance ratio. They have queues to join Wintergrasp. We just enter. We're never full:
