Week 41: Skinning - Summary of Updates

Monday, October 17, 2011

Week 41 is over, and it's time for a summary of the major updates! This week skinning was on the slightly changed agenda. And even though it wasn't completely finished during the week, it got a very good start.

I changed the way my skinner module works, from the old large database style to a more intuitive API-style. The change - along with the major changes to the gUI™ core libraries with the 1.9/2.0 releases - means that not only can I skin the Blizzard UI from within gUI™, but it is now possible for external addons to skin objects using the new gUI™ skinner API. The brand new gUI™ - Postal Skin and gUI™ - Recount Skin are good examples of that. They were the first, but there will be many many more. Quartz, Outfitter, Skada and Deadly Boss Mods are amongst the addons I have planned to release skins for in the near future.

Amongst the skinned Blizzard UI modules so far we have the talents & glyph frames, the mail frame, the merchant interface, the taxi/flightframe, battleground scores, the world map, the raid interface, the keybinding frame, friends and guild frames, the character frame, and a ton of minor ones. And this is only the beginning, as I will continue until every single part of the default UI is skinned in that good old gUI™ style! Stay tuned for more skinning later this week, as well as a huge update to the chat setup and auto configuration features!

The gUI custom user interface is a project in constant development. It requires a considerable amount of time and effort to develop and maintain, all done freely and without pay. If you like this or any other of my projects, please consider donating.
