Where am I?

Monday, March 28, 2011

Lars as we know him.
Are you worried that I have abandoned you? Are you scared stiff that Goldpaw has turned his back on his addons and the UI community? Well, DON'T PANIC!

I am still here.

I am no longer living in central Sweden. You can now instead consider me a citizen of the world. And the world is not a bad place to live in, after all! Sure, there are some nasty things to watch out for, but I found avoiding people is a good way to avoid all sorts of bad. That plan only works until my immature arse gets sufficiently drunk and heads out to find trouble and cause mayhem. Or the other way around. But that's ok. I'm quite a nice person, really. Just don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry! *growls and turns green*

ANYWAY...

Addon updates will resume soon. I'm addressing most of the issues discussed and reported in the forums, and you should expect replies on most threads in the upcoming week as well. I've simply been a bit busy the last 10-11 days. Moving to a new place, getting settled, getting to grips with the fact that the people I considered my family for the last 2 years give or take a bunch of months now are people I'll never see again... well, how can I put this? I don't handle these kind of things very well. When I get sad, I get angry. When I get angry, well we covered that already. Big and green. Just call me Bruce Banner and be done with it! Smart and gentle guy until somebody pokes him with a stick. Then he might just poke back...

I am also happy to announce that I have started working on the design for my 2nd UI; GUIS: Laevia™. It's based on the same core and code as GUIS: gUI™, so my work on it is NOT chewing into the available time I have for gUI™. Basically it's like having different skins for Winamp!

GUIS: Laevia™ will feature a much smoother and more minimalistic look, feel and design. It will NOT have the blocky look of gUI™. But there will be far less visible objects. Less action bars by default. Smaller / larger unit frames. Bars might be larger, but the frames will have no integrated portraits, thus reducing the total size greatly. Numbers will in general be larger, but far less will be visible. Ever. GUIS: Laevia™ will be even less customizable than GUIS: gUI™, so it will NOT be an UI for mouse clickers!

Some will love both UIs, some will love one and hate the other, and some will hate everything I do. But the last type of people are retards, and we don't want them here, do we? Stone, tar, feathers, those are all things we have ready for them, right? *grins*

That about covers it!

See you all in Azeroth!

Feral Druid changes in WoW Patch 4.1

Sunday, March 13, 2011

World of Warcraft Patch 4.1 Source

  • Cyclone duration has been reduced to 5 seconds, down from 6.
  • Prowl has a new icon.
  • Stampeding Roar's duration has been increased to 8 seconds, up from 6. The movement speed effect has been increased to 60%, up from 40%.
  • Swipe (Bear) cooldown has been reduced to 3 seconds, down from 6.
  • Feral Swiftness now also causes Dash and Stampeding Roar to have a 50/100% chance to instantly remove all movement impairing effects from the affected targets when used.
  • Glyph of Rake is now Glyph of Pounce, which increases the range of Pounce by 3 yards.

All in all I am happy with these changes. Not much to say about them, really.

We get a tad more AoE DPS and threat, thanks to Swipe (Bear) having a shorter cooldown. This might also help us produce a bit more rage in AoE situations, which really would come in handy in Random Heroics. Am I the only one being rage starved lately?

We get a slightly increased control from stealth if we choose to glyph for increased range on Pounce. And more important than anything, we get our root breakers! 2 of them in fact, on separate cooldowns of 2 and 3 minutes. And they are tied into speed increasing abilities, which makes them natural choice to close the gap between us and the ranged class that has rooted us.

I must say, that after 4.0.6 I expected Mages to be my biggest headache. But I was wrong there. We swiftly become immune to their rooting anyway. No, the biggest pain in my big bear butt has definitely been Boomkins and Restoration Druids. They both share the biggest and best root spell of all root spells, namely Entangling Roots! Now, I find Mages harder to beat, but it's a bigger headache fighting caster Druids...

It felt utterly devestating to be so vulnerable to this form of CC, in a game where CC is becoming more important, yet its usage minimized. All forms of CC are getting a shorter duration. It is becoming evident that timing is a far more important factor than it was before. Then along comes a Restoration Druid and roots us in place. Yup. Fun.

But now we get some nice and needed root breakers again! This kitty is happy again!

gBags v2.0 full stand-alone released!

And here you thought I'd never update my old addons, eh...?

Just what the title says, I've updated gBags! It has reached its version 2.0, it's based entirely on code from GUIS: gUI, and it has absolutely none dependencies whatsoever. Everything is integrated. It re-uses the default WoW fonts, so unless you have a font changer installed, it might not look exactly like the screenshots. This is intentional, so that it can fit into different UIs better. Having that said, you can always use the latest version of gFont to get the exact fonts used in my UI!

There is no options menu in the new version, and I don't intend to make one. There is however a few chat commands for the few options that are available:

/scalebags x.x - Sets the scale, where x.x is a value from 1.0 to 2.0
/hidejunk - Toggles display of the "Junk" category
/unlockbags - Unlocks the bags for movement
/lockbags - Locks the bags into place
/resetbags - Reset the positions of the bags and bankframe to their defaults

That's all there is to say about it. Ammo and Soul Shards as items are gone from the game, as you all know, so no need for those categories to stick around. I have also chosen NOT to include currency tracking in this version. That is not to say I won't re-implement it sometime in the future.

Anyway, enough yapping from me! Enjoy the screenshot below, and go DOWNLOAD!

GUIS: gUI™ on Facebook

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

So I was sitting here, hungry and lonely, browsing the Internet in search for distractions. Then it suddenly hit me; GUIS: gUI hasn't got a Facebook page yet! So naturally I created one! It's currently fairly empty, but I'll be posting updates there, and it will eventually feature a ton of screenshots and videos. And yes, you can all upload to it! This page is for all of us!

What I need YOU to do now, is to help me get it started! Currently the page hasn't got a name, just a clonky long URL that no living human would want to memorize. Once we're above a mere 25 likes, I can give the page a proper name. So let's head over to the Facebook page and like it!

GUIS: gUI™ has options!

Monday, March 7, 2011

Yes, you read it correctly. This isn't a weird repost of the previous post, I have actually added (some) options to the menu now!

Not all modules have options yet, and this is something I may or may not change in the future. But the need for "hacks" is gone. Everything we've been doing in the forums can now be done with /gui. This includes, but is in no way limited to showing and hiding hotkeys, the totem bar, the shift/stance/aspect bar and the pet bar, locking and unlocking the bags, changing the anchoring of the tooltips and yes; control over the merchant module!

Some of the options have previously had slash commands connected to them. Like /hidehotkeys and /lockbags. These slash commands will not be removed, so those that prefer typing to clicking can still do so. Though I recommend not mixing slash commands with menu usage, as that will provide "weird" results. The options menu doesn't yet update when you change a setting with a slash command, so the display will appear to be "wrong".

UPDATE:
The menu is as mentioned NOT YET complete, but it does include all the settings the UI at this point have support for. That is not to say that what's not there will not be added later, as I intend to add a LOT more functionality to the UI in the weeks to come. A lot of this will be related to the Unit Frames. Some of the options I intend to add in the near future include but are not limited to:

  • Show or hide the value text on health/power/resource bars
  • Turn on or off the combatfeedback
  • Options for the aura filter, to allow users to better finetune what they see on the target frame
